THE WEIGHT LOSS EPIPHANY

So if you are reading this I suggest you go back a few posts and read my goals for the year, it’s pretty mushy and a bit of a cry for help but its there and it’s the truth.

If you can’t be bothered to go find it here’s a quick rundown.

So my weight loss journey, I had 2 kids in 2 years, that’s 1 a year consecutively. I was not as fit as I had been before giving birth to my first born but I was fit.

Well pregnant with second bubs and my weight stacked on, I mean piled on every bit of shitty food I ate, made ass or arm or thigh grow. (My stomach too but you know that’s normal being preganant).

So I decided this year was the year of change, cue cliche new years resolution and here’s where I am today.

So I tried no sugar, that worked but it wasn’t something I saw being long term with two girls. Sugar is also my go to when it’s that time of the month, it shouldn’t be because it’s so bad for cramps but we will get there.

Then I had an epiphany, if I eat healthy clean foods, meal prep and exercise maybe that will work. I know what a genius.

So I researched a few tips to help me and these are the ones I swear work.

  • Shop on a full stomach, that way you will be less likely to binge buy foods.
  • Take a snack and water so if you do feel hungry you will be to busy snacking on a healthy choice to think about unhealthy ones.
  • Shop only the perimeter of the store, this is wear the healthy foods are, fruit, veg, meat, milk, bread all are on the outsides, they trick you by making you go down isles that are filled with sweets and processed foods.
  • If you have to go down a isle, only go straight for what you need then get out of there.

So there you go meal prep, clean foods and eating healthy we will see how I go.

Coffee Not Coffee

As a mum most of us enjoy coffee, its social, its tasty and most of all its caffeine.

Its energy that gets us through the day, after being up all night because without it some of us can’t function.

Coffee is getting out and about, catching up with a friend or finally getting to sit down and take a moment to yourself.

Well I love coffee as you may have gathered but I can’t have normal coffee, (because of my heart) so I have to settle for decaf, which still has a tiny bit of caffeine in it but no where near as much a a proper coffee.

To make matters worse people just don’t seem to care about decaf and they don’t take the same care making it.

Well usually I end up settling for a chai latte, chai tea, green tea or a hot chocolate.

I finally found a place that does a good decaf coffee, they take the same care making a decaf. Why is this important? Because it tastes like real coffee!

Easy But Not Boring Meal

How great is it when you find a fool proof meal, that the little ones will eat and that you know is easy.

Well I’m going to start telling you some of mine so that when your feeling lazy or just running late you can have these in your back pocket.

This isn’t only a easy recepie bir it’s fun too and will keep the little ones entertained whilst you cook.

2 ingredient pizza dough:

  • 11/4 cup of flour
  • 1 cup of Greek yogurt.

That’s it. It makes perfect pizza dough and is sooo filling. You may need to add more flour or more yogurt but I usually just add until I have the perfect consistency (or at least one I’m happy with).

Now I’m not the discoverer of this recepie but thought it was a great one to share.

One of my favourite toppings is some good olive oil, cheese and garlic. It is the best garlic bread.

My extremely quick 2nd birth

If your about to have a baby I wouldn’t use this as advice, I honestly would tell you to stop googling labour signs, because bubs will come when there ready or with medical intervention, jumping on a ball, while signing the lion king isn’t going to make bubs come any quicker.

Anyway let’s get into this shall we?

At about 8 o’clock in the morning I was rudely woken up by my partner and my 1 year old. I say rudely because before this I didn’t realise I was having contractions, I was sleeping like my husband (heavily).

Now I was technically in labour but it wasn’t active labour. My contractions where coming anywhere from 2 minutes apart to 10 minutes apart.

So what do you do in that instense, walk around IKEA of course. I was on and off the phone to my midwives as I have a heart condition and they wanted me to keep them up to date.

We walked around for about 3 hours, then I decided that they weren’t not so fun anymore and I wanted to be at the hospital.

We headed in, did I mention we had IKEA lunch too? Well that didn’t stay down.

We made it to the hospital and got all the paperwork done, when we got to the room I needed to get a drip in and of course my veins decided to disappear, this was because I was super dehydrated. So my midwife tried to get my drip in, she couldn’t do it so she had a doctor come try get my drip in, again didn’t work he tried 3 times and I nearly fainted, then they got a anesthesiologist to come in with a ultrasound machine to get it in, finally I had a cannula in with some saline.

Then it was time to get my waters broken, they essentially get what looks like a crotchet hook shove it up your whooha and break the sac of waters.

Then things got going.

I started getting intense contractions, so I stripped off and jumped in the shower, I could not deal with the pain of contractions so I tried to use the gas and air, which did nothing except help me to breathe through the contractions, it was on the lowest amount.

They said they thought I was going to have this baby in a few hours, well about an hour and 20 minutes in I said I felt like i needed to push and wanted an epidural, well they checked and said bubs wasn’t there so they ordered an epidural, I needed that epidural.

I was having no break between contractions and I was not enjoying it.

I new I needed to push so they said they would check again, low and behold she was crowning, 3 minutes later she was born, little miss violet.

About 10 minutes later my epidural was ready, and it was obviously too late.

Family Fundays

We went to the most amazing fair, it wasn’t that it was huge or crazy extravagant, it was the ways they showed kids and parents that you can have fun with using eco friendly items as toys.

Pipe? Who new a pipe could be so fun, they taught kids that a hollow pipe could be used to create sound by hitting it with a stick or drum stick.

Miss poppy have so much fun, it was a fair that had things for all ages, they had a tent teaching kids to plant there own herbs and how to take care of them.

Corks from old wine bottles with a hole poked through them (the same with milk and bottle tops) are a great idea to keep the little ones entertained, you can get a shoe lace and teach them to thread things on or count.

Bolts screwed into wood is another one we learnt, after the bolts are secured you can get pretty ribbons in different colors and they can make different patterns.

We had so much fun and will definitely be going again.

Something Smells Daddy

My partner to say the least is a heavy sleeper. If there’s any word to describe how heavy a sleeper he is I would like to know it.

When he was in high school he slept through a fire alarm, I’m talking the loud belching fire alarms that go off to evacuate shopping centers, well he slept through and only woke up to a fire fighter shaking him awake.

So yeah he’s a heavy sleeper.

Anyway, like any other morning when our oldest wakes up he gets her out of bed and takes her into the lounge room, while I boob out youngest.

You may of guessed he fell asleep, he didn’t only fall asleep, he fell into one of his deep sleeps. Well our miss poppy ran amok she got into everything, toys and her textas, even her christmas presents.

No she didn’t draw on the walls, instead she got into her little sisters nappy bin, she got a poopy nappy out and put it right next to dads face.

He slept there for a while longer.

Well dad it’s time to wake up and smell the Rose’s.

Breastfeeding Essential

Hey girls,

Firstly BREASTFEEDING IS HARD. It is not easy, even for me who’s babies latched and drank with ease, no tongue ties, no lip ties, just healthy (lazy) babies, but Boy is it HARD.

So I have some tips and essentials to help you get through this not so easy time.

  • Cry if you have to, I felt like I was failing if I cried but you know what all those hormones rushing out of your body and bubs crying your allowed to cry. (I’m giving you permission to cry).
  • A good breast pump in the right size. The tip to getting a good supply is feed, pump, eat, drink (water) and feed again. But the pumping part is made so much easier if you get one that works well. My favourite is the medela swing, I have also used the avent manual pump.
  • Keep a spare shirt in your car. Breast pads for me did not work, most of the time I had a spit rag tucked into my bra and please do not feel embarrassed if you leak, we all do.
  • In Australia feeding in public is legal. So don’t feel like a criminal for doing it.
  • Sometimes we can’t make it to the parents room in the fear bubs will get so worked up that they won’t be able to latch. So if you don’t feel comfortable feeding in public, you can tie a muslin wrap in a corner then you can pop it over and it acts as a cover for your boobies and bubs.
  • Lastly there are support groups and phone lines you can call for mums so ustilise them if you need them.
